S.A. WOMEN'S AUXILIARY ARMY SERVICES

Four officers and 105 other ranks of the South African Women's Auxiliary Army Services reached East Africa during the period August 1940-April 1941.

OTHER UNITS

A limited number of men of the Special Signals Service, S.A.C.S. served in East Africa between 12 December 1940 and 22 January 1941, and a small S.A. Instructional Corps staff arrived during the period December 1940-March 1941.

NON-EUROPEAN ARMY SERVICES

Non-Europeans of the Cape Corps, the S.A. Indian and Malay Corps and the S.A. Native Military Corps served in various capacities attached to a number of units, in addition to

units with predominantly Non-European establishments. From December 1940 onwards, an increasing number of men of the S.A. Native Military Corps arrived in East Africa, mainly with 5th S.A. Infantry Brigade Group.

STRENGTH OF S.A. FORCES IN EAST AFRICA

By 12 April 1941 the strength of the South African Forces in East Africa was as follows:

A peak total was reached on 21 April 1941 when the number of South African servicemen of all races in East Africa was 43,730. (See also graph on page 222.)
