USS LST-1141, a 3960-ton tank landing ship, was built at Seneca, Illinois. She was commissioned in May 1945 and soon went to the central Pacific, arriving just as Japan's capitulation brought World War II's fighting to an end. During the fall of 1945 she operated in support of Far Eastern occupation efforts, then recrossed the ocean to the U.S. West Coast. LST-1141 made a second deployment to the western Pacific beginning in May 1946 and was decommissioned in August 1949, about three months after the end of that long cruise.
The Korean War brought LST-1141 back into active service after just over a year in the Reserve Fleet. Recommissioned in November 1950, she had two tours of duty in the combat zone, the first between March 1951 and March 1952. The second began in January 1953 and extended until the following December. She again deployed to the Far East in 1955 and at the beginning of July 1955 was renamed Stone County (LST-1141). Over the next decade and a half the landing ship was frequently assigned to the Seventh Fleet in the western Pacific. She participated in Vietnam War operations in 1966 and 1968. USS Stone County was leased to Thailand in March 1970 and thereafter served in that Nation's Navy under the name Lanta. She was formally sold to Thailand in August 1973 and stricken from the U.S. Navy list at that time.
