Celt, a 217 gross ton steam yacht, was built at Wilmington, Delaware, in 1902. Later renamed Sachem, she was acquired by the Navy in July 1917 and commissioned in mid-August as USS Sachem (SP-192). She served on harbor patrol duties in the New York area for the rest of World War I. Sachem was returned to her owner in February 1919.
This page features our only views of the steam yacht Celt, later Sachem, which was USS Sachem (SP-192) during World War I.

Note: The Ships' Histories Branch of the Naval Historical
Center holds another photograph of the yacht Sachem, taken
prior to her Navy service. The view was taken from off her starboard
side, somewhat toward the bow, while she was at anchor. The yacht's
bowsprit has been cropped out of the image. |
