First Class Pilot Richard E. Birch, USN, (in service circa 1863-1865)

Richard E. Birch was employed as a Pilot in the Mississippi Squadron during the Civil War. In 1863-65, he commanded the dispatch steamer USS General Lyon, with the rank of First Class Pilot.
