Assistant Surgeon Elisha Kent Kane, USN (1820-1857)

Oil on canvas, 72" x 53", by Thomas Hicks (1823-1890). Signed and dated by the artist, 1859.
The painting depicts Kane in the cabin of the exploration ship Advance, probably during his second expedition to the Arctic, circa 1853-1855.
