S.S. Western Hope (American Freighter, 1918)
Launching, at the J.F. Duthie & Company shipyard, Seattle, Washington,
29 July 1918.
Originally ordered by the British as War Ruby, this ship
was requisitioned by the U.S. Shipping Board while under construction
and renamed Western Hope. She was transferred to the U.S.
Navy upon completion and placed in commission on 25 September
1918 as USS Western Hope (ID # 3771). The ship was returned
to the Shipping Board on 5 May 1919.
