Photo #: NH 100223 USS SP-237 (ex-Ranger) Fine screen halftone reproduction of a photograph taken circa 1918-1919, while she was operating in icy waters in the vicinity of New York City. Built in 1910, the steam yacht Ranger was purchased by the Navy on 22 June 1917 and placed in commission on 9 October 1917 as USS Ranger (SP-237). Renamed SP-237 in 1918, she was decommissioned on 28 April 1919 and transferred to the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. She was returned to the Navy on 31 January 1931, stricken on 4 September and sold on 21 December 1931. U.S. Naval Historical Center Photograph. Online Image: 48KB; 740 x 465 pixels |
