"Grim Reminder"

"If there was ever any question in the minds of Marines in Korea of whether to wear helmets or not, there isn't after viewing this impressive sign posted by some member of the 1st Marine Division. The sign reads" 'The wearer of this helmet still lives! -- wear yours'. Medics estimate 19 percent of all casualties are head wounds due to men not wearing helmets."
Photograph and caption released by Commander Naval Forces, Far East, under date of 9 April 1952.
The sign also bears the date 25 March 1952. The helmet is badly dented, with its cover shredded.

Official U.S. Navy Photograph, from the "All Hands" collection at the Naval Historical Center.
