Action between USS Constitution and HMS Guerriere, 19 August 1812


Color tinted engraving by C. Tiebout after Thomas Birch, published by James Webster at about the time of the battle and inscribed to Captain Isaac Hull, Constitution's Commanding Officer, his officers and crew.
The scene represents the later part of the action, as Guerriere's fore and mainmasts collapsed.
The bottom center of the print features a small vignette of Captain Hull, with the Latin phrase "Veni, Vidi, Vici" ("I came, I saw, I conquered").
