Mrs. Naunita Harmon Carroll christens the ship with a bottle of Great Western champagne, during launching ceremonies at the Fore River shipyard, Quincy, Massachusetts, 25 July 1943.
Mrs. Harmon was the mother of Mess Attendant First Class Leonard Roy Harmon, in whose honor the ship was named.
