Cavite Navy Yard, Philippine Islands


Commemorative tablet, photographed sometime between 1917 and 1942. It marks the flagstaff on which the United States flag was first raised over the Philippines, at 8 AM on 3 May 1898. The tablet was erected and dedicated on 23 September 1917 by Post Ward Cheney No. 30, Veterans of the Foreign Wars, while Captain Edward Simpson, USN, was Yard Commandant.
