Photo #: NH 92150 Lena River Delta, Siberia Map based on reports of Chief Engineer George Melville, USN, who travelled extensively in the area while searching for other survivors of the Jeannette Arctic exploring expedition, during October-November 1881 and early 1882. The campsite where the expedition's leader, Lieutenant Commander George DeLong, and his men perished of starvation is near the center of the map.
