Naval Convoy Heading for Sicily

Convoy of assault transports from Norfolk, Virginia, enroute to the Sicily landings via Oran, Algeria, photographed on 26 June 1943 from USS Ancon (AGC-4).
The raised twin 40-mm mount and its associated director, one on each side amidships, was a conspicuous feature of USS Ancon.
Note that the transports have some of their landing craft rigged out over the side. The line of transports is led by a destroyer.
