Normandy Invasion, June 1944


Navy Beach Battalion members dive for cover during a German strafing attack against the Normandy beachhead.
Photograph was released on 20 June 1944. It was taken by Combat Photo Unit Eight (CPU-8).
Note the concrete seawall at left, and the "horned skullies" removed from boat lanes, where they had been placed by the Germans to obstruct access to the beach.
