USS Yorktown (CV-5)

During the "Yorktown Jamboree", the "Last T-bone Steak in Captivity" is served by fourteen-year-old sailor John Underwood (specially costumed for the occasion), of Fighting Squadron 42 (VF-42), 10 April 1942, while the ship was operating in the Coral Sea.
This meal, staged for the benefit of onlooking (and presumably envious) crewmen, was served on the midships elevator. Note portable mess table and bench in use.

Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the U.S. National Archives.
